This is a rear subframe taken off of a B5 S4 that had been sitting for a few years outside. The toll that the moisture had on everything under the car is not difficult to see. Basically everything was suffering from either rotting or surface rust, which was a shame as the car itself was in extremely good condition.

It’s difficult on jobs like this, because once you start, you really have to simply get rid of everything offensive. It can be daunting as the process of removal, refurbishment and replacement seems never-ending.

One of the subframes was a lost cause so a second-hand one in better shape was sourced and refurbished, but the rear was actually fundamentally in fairly good shape once everything had been removed.
